my husband and I were scouring the internet for a hotel in Gatlinburg for a 4 day getaway. We found the website offering 3 nights in Gatlinburg at westgate resort for a good price.

We went ahead and booked and then was prompted to call this phone number, upon calling we were asked several question about income, age, etc. After he processed out credit card for the room, he told us in order to get this room for this price we would have to take a 90 minute tour of the resort, ok, so 90 minutes is not so bad, ha.Upon arriving at the resort, we waited about an hour for them to check us in,(the resort check in was very unorganized), we are given our room key and a map to lead us to....what? our room was at the very end of the road, the road ended about a block from our room, and then it is in almost a basement. the room was very small and the look out our window was of the sidewalk.

They never called once to see if there was anything that we needed.Ok, now about our 90 minute tour, we arrive at the time scheduled only to have to wait 45 minutes for our rep to arrive. When he asked us if we had to wait long I told him and he stated that he had been ready for us but was not told we were there yet.Now starting out with the tour, "Mo" was very congenial, then midway through the tour he started asking us how we liked the place, we were honest with him that we were not impressed, he stated that the room we were given is for non-owners and that if we bought into the time share that we could have one of these nice rooms. I told him that we have booked much nicer hotels for about the same price that we paid for this one. We also was honest with him up front that we were not interested in buying into the time share.

By the time we finished with the tour, he acted really cold and pissed off at us, that's fine, we just wanted this over with so we could get on with our day, at this point we were at 2 and 12 hours in this presentation.he took us back to a large room that was filled with people and sat us down and started his pitch. After us telling him "no" a dozen or more times, he raised his hand to call over the bid dudes. This big dude happened to be his sister, she had to be the wicked witch of the south because she had an attitude from the beginning. She started questioning us again about why we weren't interested, we shouldn't have to tell a person no more than once, but boy she was persistant.

I had gotten to the point where I was fed up and got up and walked away, as I got to the door, she came up behind me and tapped my arm and stated with her finger pointed at me that "if you don't go back in that room and let me finish, you will be paying full price for the room", she pointed again to the room and said "now".Not wanting to pay anymore for the room than we already had, I told her I would give her 15 minutes more to finish. She continued her harassing for several more "no's" from us and then got her and her brother got up and said another person will come over to finish, neither one of them thanked us for our time. after waiting another several minutes, another guy comes over for a few more "no's" from us and we finally get to sign off.In all, we spent 4 hours in this 90 minute presentation, it totally ruined our day time wise and we were exhausted from the harassment.I guess sometime you have to learn the hard way, but this treatment was totally uncalled for.I would not recommend Westgate Resorts to anyone, this resort was very outdated and the room was a dungeon!!

Monetary Loss: $130.

Location: Gatlinburg, Tennessee

You were lucky that it was a dungeon and that they were rude or you could have been stuck in a timeshare for a lonnnnng time. If you didn't go, you might have always wondered what if.

Be grateful it was only $130. Many of us are into this for thousands, with no way out :(

Do not do this tour! Our rep Ashley was horrible and blamed our kids for her taking more than 90 minutes!!!

SWITCH & BAIT: Recently, my wife and I received promotional offer through Westgate Resort Club for Pigeon Forge two days and 90 minute presentation.

Our experience was hair-raising from the start We paid required promotional fee and were promised at a 4 star hotel, which was dump. First room looked like a budget inn room (older carpet, older bed spreads, worn mattress). Second room didn't look tidy, resulting in my wife lifting the bedspread. Mattress cover had a dried large semen or menstrual stain. We took pictures. We were livid. At 12:00 AM, tired, after a full day of driving, we reluctantly accepted a third room, which was barely acceptable. While we paid for two days, we checked on the next day. BEWARE: The accommodations were grossly oversold and over-rated. Neither the Country Cascade Hotel nor Westgate agreed to any concession for our inferior experience.

WESTGATE PRESENTATION. We attended the overly "high sales" presentation, which created more questions than answers, and blow-off answers to specific questions asked. Information constantly changed from one rep to the other. Credibility was lost fast as the presentation seemed to evolve more into a scam, with each person we met referring us to someone higher up in the chain. It all seemed very staged just to get you to sign on the dotted line. We negotiated our price down from the original $8,900 to about $3,500 with a few modifications, which we paid in full. The next day, we called the numbers in our package to get information on some of the promised deeply discounted vacation packages available to members. We were told that we would have to wait four weeks for our membership to process. Before we signed, we specifically asked and were told that we could exercise the options immediately--while waiting for membership card. This was not so. Worse yet, no one accepted responsibility and we were passed off, given multiple numbers to call which were fruitless.

Don't make the mistake of signing. Steer clear.

My husband and I had a similar experience, although we weren't staying at the property. We were just there for the so-called "90 minute" presentation, which of course lasted 3 hours.

Luckily my husband looks like an ex-NFL player (6'6" and 250 pounds), and I work at a large law firm, and I'm Chicago born and raised, so certainly not a novice lightweight.

I will continue to find blogs on the internet to let everyone out there know what a horrible scam Westgate is!

I have read all the comments and I'll have to say, I have experienced all of these. You have to remember, there are no free lunches!!!

If it sounds like a good deal, don't fall for it. I was such a fool when I let those wolves rip me off. It's not just Westgate though, it's ALL timeshares and vacation clubs. The smartest way to vacation is a motorhome or a good hotel.

Pay as you go!!! It's a lot cheaper on the pocketbook. Just put the word out so that others don't get caught in the trap. That's about all you can do.

Once they get your money or access to your bank account or credit card it's all over unless you cancel your accounts at the bank.

I paid cash for my timeshare, so there was no way to recover my money. Lessons learned from mistakes.

Thanks so much for taking the time to write this. I was just about to fall into this trap and my husband, who is from the Bronx, would not have tolerated half of what you had to go thru.

I appreciate you taking the time!!! Hope your next trip is wonderful.
